Rockport Strong!

Hurricane Harvey hit Rockport and the surrounding area HARD! That has been over a year …..August 27, 2017; But don’t let that deter you from coming to Rockport! Rockport has rebounded with a vengeance and looks better than ever.

Pelican Guest House has been one of the few rentals that was spared. Needless to say, I feel very grateful to have had only minimal damage. Once the clean up was completed, new fences, new roof, new garage door and landscaping, I was able to have guests come and stay. This past summer of 2018, Pelican Guest House was very busy and I met so many NEW guests and had several returning guests!

Rockport Beach is beautiful, fishing plentiful, restaurants reopening and several new ones as well. The Art Center is in full swing with lots of galleries open and shopping downtown is back! Oh, and now is one of the best birding seasons! Whooping Cranes have made their migration to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge and will be here until April. The Birding Tour boat, Skimmer is in full operation out of Fulton Harbor.

Looking forward to a wonderful 2018 season at Pelican Guest House and hope to see you soon!

Happy New Year!

Judi

Sunsets and More!

One of the best parts of my day is coming home and going for my “power walk” on Key Allegro. It is the best way for me to decompress and enjoy the end of the day. My route takes me down Bayshore Drive. Never is there a time that I don’t see pelicans, egrets, herons all around. Just the other day there was a pod of dolphins following along the shore of the island!

Now that I have joined the 21st century and gotten an IPHONE, I now can easily take pictures when I walk. Yesterday was exceptionally beautiful….cool and crisp with a gorgeous sunset wrapping around me. Looking east out on to Aransas Bay or west down any or the canals, the sunset was phenomenal! See what I mean! Heron at SunsetHeron at Sunset.

Pelican Guest House 1st year; A delightful success!

For several years I had the idea to convert our upstairs living space into a guest house. It finally came to fruition and we opened for business in March of 2012. Since that time, we have had a stream of wonderful guests. Some of our guests have been coming to Rockport for many years and are familiar with the areas’ uniqueness and all of the attractions…..fishing, birding, art festivals, sailing, museums, art galleries and more. Others have discovered Rockport for the first time and are pleasantly surprised. Jerry and I enjoy sharing information with our guests as well as visiting with them if they so choose. We have had guests from Italy, CA, CO and NM! Soon we will have Winter Texans from VT!

Our most recent guests from Austin had a wonderful time in spite of the unusually cold and rainy weather. They were birders and went out on the Skimmer for a bird watching tour. They stated that the birding watching exceeded their expectations! So all of you birders out there, now is the time to come! Great bird watching…..the beautiful Whooping Cranes….will be here through April. Make your reservation soon!

Our guest house is unique, as we live downstairs and are available if needed. However, the guest house has a private and secure entry as well as a beautiful southern facing deck. There is plenty of seating on the deck as well as a BBQ pit. Many of our guests enjoy opening the french doors and taking in all of the waterfront beauty and scenery.

We are looking forward to our 2nd year, anticipating returning guests and new ones as well.
